Reflections on long distance EV and camper trailer travel

We really enjoyed our 10 weeks and 10,000 km of EV and camper trailer travel. Here we discuss things we have learned about power consumption, trip planning and charging. Our Trips From March to July 2021 we clocked-up over 10 weeks and 10,000 km of travel with our Kona EV and Little Guy teardrop camperContinue reading “Reflections on long distance EV and camper trailer travel”

Rushing home via Gulgong, Goolgowi and Gol Gol

A Covid outbreak and the subsequent restrictions cut our trip short and we had to rush home. By coincidence our overnight stops were small towns all starting with G: Gulgong, Goolgowi and Gol Gol! While we were relaxing and enjoying the Myall Lakes area, we were keeping an eye on the news relating to aContinue reading “Rushing home via Gulgong, Goolgowi and Gol Gol”

Scenic Myall Lakes area

A visit to the scenic Myall Lakes area, including day trips, walks and birdwatching. Due to flood damage in March, all of Myall Lakes National Park was closed. Instead, we chose to stay at the Sandbar and Bushland caravan park which was close by, in a nice lakeside setting and close to the coast. ThisContinue reading “Scenic Myall Lakes area”

Rainforest walks, rain and fog in the Gloucester Region

We walk among Antarctic Beech trees and around an old goldmine site which is being reclaimed by the rainforest. Gloucester is the gateway to the Barrington High Tops National Park, which like Springbrook and the Border Ranges is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. Although we would have preferred to camp in the nationalContinue reading “Rainforest walks, rain and fog in the Gloucester Region”

Bellingen Shire – from waterfalls to the sea

The Bellingen Shire includes three main towns, the small friendly township of Dorrigo in the highlands (762 m above sea level), the main town Bellingen at the bottom of the mountains, and Urunga on the coast. The area includes both farmland and national parks. We arrived from the west and used a Dorrigo campground asContinue reading “Bellingen Shire – from waterfalls to the sea”

The Pilliga: scrub, sculptures and sandstone caves

We travel north-west from Coonabarrabran to explore the expansive Pilliga Forest. We read about the Pilliga while charging our car at the fast charger in Coonabarrabran (during our stay in the Warrumbungles) and were attracted to visit there. The Pilliga Forest includes over 5,000 km2 of semi-arid woodland. The native cypress pine (Callitris) growing there hasContinue reading “The Pilliga: scrub, sculptures and sandstone caves”

Central West NSW

To explore the region of NSW between Parkes to the west, Cowra to the south and Orange to the east, we decided to stay in Canowindra, which is centrally located. From Canberra we drove to Yass for a fast charge, but instead of looking around, we had a chat with another Kona EV driver whoContinue reading “Central West NSW”

Walks near (freezing) Canberra

Lovely short walks in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Molonglo Gorge near Canberra With some relatives living in Canberra we visited the sanctuary area at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve about 50 km SW of Canberra. In the late afternoon on a chilly day we wandered around the Tidbinbilla Sanctuary. The following morning we woke to severeContinue reading “Walks near (freezing) Canberra”

Adelaide to Canberra: 1200 km over 3 days

Driving 1200 km over some long, very straight roads from Adelaide to Canberra. Over the three days of using eight fast chargers, we didn’t once have to pay for charging. We decided to break the 1200 km drive to Canberra into three roughly equal stretches. This trip relied on access to fast chargers (installed byContinue reading “Adelaide to Canberra: 1200 km over 3 days”

Nelson, Glenelg River, Robe and return home

A couple of days enjoying Nelson and the nearby Lower Glenelg National Park, then return to Adelaide via Robe, SA. After our detour from Port Fairy to Budj Bim, we arrived in Nelson with a 16% charge. Plenty! But we had mostly been driving between 80 to 95 km/h depending on traffic, hills etc. ThisContinue reading “Nelson, Glenelg River, Robe and return home”
